Os textos constantes desta colectânea patenteiam a modesta intenção didáctica dos seus autores de esquadrinhar as possibilidades analíticas imanentes a certos institutos do processo penal que facultam, habitualmente, a base para a construção de múltiplas hipóteses apropriadas ao método de trabalho de casos praticado com os estudantes nas aulas práticas da disciplina de Direito Processual Penal, na Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de Lisboa (neste caso: 5.° ano do curso de licenciatura, no 1.° semestre do ano lectivo de 1998-99, sob a coordenação do Prof. Doutor Miguel Teixeira de Sousa e a regência de Paulo de Sousa Mendes).Os textos produzidos foram, entretanto, um pretexto para guiar alguns dos debates de ideias travados, regularmente, entre os elementos da equipa docente, no contexto da programação dos temas de leccionação para as aulas práticas. As ideias neles expostas vinculam, porém, apenas os seus próprios autores, tanto mais que nunca houve a preocupação de impor a uniformização de opiniões entre os elementos da equipa docente acerca de quaisquer tópicos, no âmbito da disciplina.Muitos outros temas de debate sobram no alfobre das possibilidades de enriquecimento futuro desta colectânea, acaso venha a conhecer alguma fortuna de público leitor.Foi decidido apresentar ainda nesta colectânea, mais uma vez em atenção à sua finalidade didáctica, um teste escrito de exame final efectivamente realizado e um modelo para a sua resolução.A utilidade desta publicação como elemento (rectius; complemento) de estudo—é conveniente dizê-lo!—obedece à condição de os alunos da disciplina de Direito Processual Penal começarem sempre o respectivo percurso de estudo pela leitura das obras de carácter geral, usualmente recomendadas.
