A presente coletânea foi pensada para responder às necessidades pedagógicas do ensino das cadeiras de Direito Internacional Económico (primeiro ciclo) e Direito Internacional Económico e do Investimento (segundo e terceiro ciclos). Pretende- se a disponibilização dos principais textos trabalhados naquelas cadeiras, sem preocupações de esgotar todas as matérias que se inserem no
atual Direito Internacional Económico.
Procurámos assim, sacrificando a extensão de textos relevantes em favor de considerações de pragmatismo pedagógico, colmatar uma falha no mercado editorial nacional, onde as anteriores coletâneas de textos desta disciplina estão há muito esgotadas. Sublinhamos a coletânea organizada por Luís Máximo dos Santos, Luís Morais e Fernando Pereira Ricardo, Relações Económicas
Internacionais – Textos Fundamentais, Lisboa: AAFDL, 1997 e a coletânea mais exaustiva, em dois volumes, organizada por Eduardo Paz Ferreira e João Atanásio, Textos de Direito do Comércio Internacional e do Desenvolvimento Internacional, Coimbra: Almedina, 2005.
